Principle: Under acidic conditions, mercury ions react with the added Rhodamine B solution to form an orange red chelate, which is then stabilized by coloring with nitric acid and PVA. The absorbance is measured at a wavelength of 600nm, and the mercury content in water is calculated using the standard curve method.

After the water sample is digested, various forms of mercury are converted into divalent mercury. Then, stannous chloride is used to reduce divalent mercury to elemental mercury. The generated mercury vapor is carried into the absorption cell of the mercury analyzer using a carrier gas to measure the absorbance, which is then compared quantitatively with the absorbance of the mercury standard solution.
